Every year people say K-Pop can’t get any bigger, but with the success of BTS‘s US debut, PSY‘s comeback singles and huge hits from the likes of TWICE and Red Velvet, 2017 has been one of the biggest years for Korean music.
YouTube have revealed the top 10 most popular music videos in Korea this year and nine of the hits are K-Pop bangers.
The compilation isn’t just based on views in Korea but also on watch times, number of comments and likes as well as social media shares.
No surprises to see TWICE’s popular “Knock Knock” at the top of the list, followed by their single “Signal”, IU‘s “Palette”, PSY’s “I Luv It” and “New Face”, Red Velvet’s hit single “Red Flavor”, Black Pink‘s “As If It’s Your Last”, IU’s “Through the Night” and at number 10 is Akdong Musician‘s “Last Goodbye”.
The only non K-Pop track to make the list was Ed Sheeran‘s “Shape of You”, which charted at number seven on the list.
No sign of BTS on the top 10 but the group gets an honourable mention for making the YouTube’s 2017 YouTube Rewind list for their music video “DNA”. The website writes, “A splash of color makes a huge splash. BTS grabbed viewers attention with colorful hair, dance moves, and backdrops, making it the biggest debut by a K-Pop group ever. We couldn’t look away from their music video for DNA.”
