It’s the end of Kara as we know it. Singer Nicole Jung is leaving hit girl group Kara in January and fellow bandmate Jiyoung could be leaving in April, IdolWow! has confirmed.
The band’s agency DSP Media released a statement this morning, October 4, reading: “Nicole has no intentions to renew her contract with DSP hence her contract will expire in January.”
They also revealed that Jiyoung, 19, could also be planning a move. The statement continued: “Unlike the other members, Jiyoung’s contract expires in April. No renewal decision has been made and she currently considering her various career options — in terms of her singing career and further education.”
Adds a source: “Jiyoung is thinking about taking a break or possibly studying abroad. She hasn’t made a decision yet but is thinking about it carefully.”
DSP tells IdolWow! that the remaining three members Gyuri, Seung Yeon and Hara have recently renewed their contracts and will be continuing their activities with the agency. There are currently no confirmed plans to replace the departing members.
