Reporting for duty! Lee Seung Gi will be waving goodbye to his fans on February 1 when he begins his mandatory military service.
The 29-year-old singer and actor confirmed today, January 21, that he will soon be taking time out of his career to begin service.
In a statement he wrote, “I would like to express my deepest gratitude for the undeserving love I received until now, and I will return a real man.”
A rep at Hook Entertainment also revealed that the singer has written a special song to mark the event. “Ahead of his enlistment, Lee Seung Gi has released a new song ‘I’m Going to the Army’ on music sites,” says the spokesman. “It’s a song that conveys his appreciation for the love he received as a celebrity from fans.”
Lee says of the emotional track, “I wasn’t sure when I would receive my notice of enlistment, so until now I was only preparing my heart for enlistment. And because I couldn’t say goodbye to everyone in person, I expressed my sorry heart in the song.”
“Although the song is my story, I hope it’s a song that all reserve soldiers can relate to with their family and friends.”
