Yookyung of girl group A Pink is to leave her band to study at university, a spokesman confirms.
Management agency Cube Entertainment announced today: "After considering whether to continue her career or continue on with her studies, Hong Yookyung has decided to leave the group and focus on her studies. A new member will replace Yookyung and to allow the continuation of the seven-girl group."
The agency added of the band's former lead rapper: "Following her departure Yookyung is planning to go on to university. No longer the Yookyung of A Pink, she will now be a student much like most other girls her age, and we encourage that everyone respect and support her aims for the future."
A source close to the 18-year-old singer tells IdolWow!: "For a while she was torn between studying part time and continuing with the group, but she is ready to live a normal life now."
Sources confirm that the "Hush" performer has secured a place at Korea’s Chung-Ang University to study performance and media design. Her announcement has also had local media focus on her wealthy family heritage, where her father and grandfather run the DSR Corporation, an international industrial business.
Yookyung's departure is effective as of today and Cube Entertainment are rumored to have already found a replacement.
