Wheesung was officially discharged from his Korean military service today, September 9, and immediately chose to meet with fans who had been eagerly awaiting his return.
Groups of fans -- many of whom had seen the singer off on his November 2011 enlistment day -- were filled with joy as the 31-year-old R&B icon gave his first meet and greet in two years. After leaving the military facility in Nonsan, South Chungcheong, he shared with the crowds heartfelt sentiments about how much he missed seeing them.
To the delight of longing fans, the idol star thanked his loyal supporters for sticking with him during his absence. "I promise I will be returning to the stage [to perform] soon," he assured a group of girls who had handed him a bouquet of flowers.
The star's agency tells IdolWow!: "Wheesung committed himself passionately to his military duties and received 10 different awards for his service. This is why he decided to host this intimate event -- to honor and thank the loyal fans who have waited for him."

Somewhat contrastingly from the agency's statement, Wheesung's discharge was in fact delayed for three days as he was required to serve an added detention period for illegally possessing a cell phone during his service.
