The male who claimed to be a former T-ara back-up dancer in order to start false rumours about the group has been arrested in Seoul.
A spokesman for the Gangnam Police Station confirmed today that the single man, who fooled a number of media outlets in to believing band member Park Ji Yeon, 19, had slapped Ryu Hwayoung during a dance rehearsal, was confronted by the authorities at his home after months of investigating.
"The person in question has been arrested for defamation of character and abusive messages," confirms a station rep, who adds that the man can't be named for legal reasons. "Because the original post was deleted, it took a long time [to investigate]. It was difficult to find the origins of the post, however this is a major step forward."
Hwayoung, also 19, found herself under intense scrutiny after announcing her departure from T-ara in July. Although there are rumours she was pushed out of the group, numerous sources have suggested her "poor work ethic" was to blame.
A rep for Core Contents Media, who deny any untoward behaviour in the group, tells IdolWow! they are "co-operating" with the police investigation.
