T-ara's Soyeon has opened up about the recent web scandal that saw her and two other idols seeminly make fun of a well-known actress.
The controversy began when cruel comments from a personal social network chatroom, via the KakaoStory mobile application, were leaked on to the internet on January 16.
In the conversation, Soyeon, 25, rookie group D-Day's Sua and actress Yoon Ee Na are seen making jibes about a girl they call 'Stitch'. Sources claim actress Yoon Eun Hye, 28, is the target of their jibes, which include jokes about oral hygiene and looking old.
However, a T-ara spokesman at Core Contents Media today released a statement denying the rumors.
"The 'Stitch' in question refers to an acquaintance of Soyeon's, a graduate student, who looks like a tiger drawing Stitch, often found on sweatshirts of a certain clothing brand," it reads.
"She is called that because she wears that brand whenever they meet. It is not a nickname for another celebrity
"It is not at all about a celebrity; it was a joke that another acquaintance made after seeing a photo of the item that has the tiger drawing on it."
The rep goes on to add: "Talk about the wedding wasn't about the graduate student acquaintance but another friend who will be getting married soon.
"Soyeon and her friends were not referring to any celebrity at all, and we believe it is not right for a controversy to start from mere guesses. We are sorry such a thing happened and they said they would be more careful in the future."
