The 22nd Division Search Battalion operates at the forefront of the army's missions and their wartime objectives usually require deep penetration into enemy territory. (Military service is mandatory in South Korea). The training is therefore known to be significantly tougher.

A senior official says: "Due to the nature of the Search Battalion, there are still special classes that need to be completed. Therefore, there is still one more step to go [before the decision is final]." If the actor fails final classes, it's possible he will be transferred to another division within the battalion.

Song began his military service on August 27 and is expected to complete service duty on May 26, 2015.
