Perhaps one billion views was just the beginning. PSY's newly-released music video "Gentleman" has already broken records.
The 35-year-old rapper's promotional video has beaten out Justin Bieber's "Boyfriend" for most views in a day with an astonishing 22 million plays (compared to Biebs' 8 million). To date, the track has surpassed 62.8 million hits.
But PSY is not letting his YouTube success get to his head. On his Twitter account, the humble star expressed his joy at achieving 51 million views in 40 hours, but he will always remain dedicated to his craft.
"I've been doing this for 12 years," he said in a recent interview. "Would it be fair to call me a one-hit wonder just because my next song fails? I received international fame almost by accident, but that does not mean that I will make desperate efforts to maintain that global popularity... I will just continue to do what I have been doing for all these years. If it satisfies people's appetite, it will. If not, it won't."
Since it's release, "Gentleman" has topped the music charts in Finland and its ranked top 10 on iTunes in France, Canada, New Zealand, Denmark, UK and Sweden. The video download for the track is also placing high on iTunes, with number one spots in two dozen territories.
