Former 90s idol Tony An is being prosecuted for illegal gambling and may serve 10 months in jail.

On Friday, December 6, the Supreme Prosecutors' Office in Seoul recommended that the 35-year-old idol receive 10 months in jail and two years probation for his involvement in an illegal online gambling ring with other celebrities.

The investigation unveiled that the former H.O.T member had spent around USD $378,000 on "illegal" sports gambling websites from May 2009 to March 2012.

Under a related law, Sportstoto -- operated by a licensed brokerage for the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation -- is the only authorised sports gambling venue in Korea. All the other sports gambling channels are illegal.

Comedian Lee Soo Geun and singer Tak Jae Hoon are also among the accused and all three admitted to all charges in court on the day, and said that they would take time to repent.

The prosecution is reportedly investigating six to eight TV celebrities in connection with illegal sports betting.

In response to the suggested charges, Tony An's attorney has asked the court for leniency caliming that the signer had been going through "a dry period in his career" at the time of gambling.
