Monsta X Cameo in Web Drama Series in China, Trends on Social Media: Details

Hip hop boy band Monsta X have caused quite a stir in China after appearing in a new web drama.

The new digital series Goodnight, Teacher premiered on January 25 on Chinese streaming portal iQIYI. In less than half a day after launch the view count had exceeded 1,000 views and after four days the view had surpassed over 8,000 views, not to mention becoming the second hottest trending topic on Chinese social network Weibo.

Monsta X star alongside Korean screen star Lee Dong Gun and Chinese actress Guan Xiao Tong, in a school comedy about a high school teacher (Lee) and a female student (Guan) who regularly engage in turbulent arguments. The boy band appear as Monsta X themselves and are highly admired by the school’s students.

The group's agency Starship Entertainment were surprised at the news exclaimed that the viewer response was much larger than they had anticipated and said, "We are thankful for the heated responses from the viewers in China, which is much more than we expected. Monsta X plans to actively perform in the country in return for the fan’s love."

Goodnight, Teacher airs every night at 8:00pm (local time) on iQIYI.
