KARA's Kang Jiyoung has quit her role in Iris 2, it was announced today.

The singer and actress dramatically pulled out of the popular series just days before filming was due to start, throwing the KBS2 production in to chaos.

A rep for the 18-year-old confirms to IdolWow!: "It's true that Kang Jiyoung will no longer be appearing by series."

A DSP Media statement adds: "We contemplated appearing in Iris 2 but we came to hold differing opinions on a [particular] condition and we have decided to ultimately not appear in the production. As this is [Kang Jiyoung's] first acting role in Korea, this decision was made after considering what was best for the production and [Kang].

"Though she won’t appear in Iris 2, we are continuing to receive other acting offers, which we are carefully considering."

The "Jumping" star, who has acted in the Japanese drama series Rainbow Rose, was originally signed up in the spy thriller show as a National Security Service agent.

T-ara's Soyeon is the current favourite to take on the now-vacant role, however a KBS2 rep says a name won't be announced until later on this week.
