IU released the much-teased music video for her latest number "The Red Shoes" last night and takes us back to the 1930s swing scene with an adorable French cabaret dance number.
The 20-year-old idol star released the video marking her musical comeback after almost one and half years working on acting projects. IU says that her concept for the video is to show her maturity "through musical development."
Indeed the songstress shows just how much she has grown in her flirty scenes with male model Jang Ki Yong. As the story progresses, viewers see IU seduced by the young 6-foot-1 hunk -- even coming close to kissing!
The feature-length music video was inspired from Han Andersen's fairy tale The Red Shoes, which tells the story of a pair of red shoes that make the wearer dance -- regardless of her will -- whenever she wears them.
The song borrows classical notes from the 1930s big band swing era and IU’s producers worked with dramatic Japanese musical maestro Toyama Kazuhiko to achieve this.
"It's a really difficult song to perform," IU says of the track. "It got to the point where I lived in the rehearsal room wondering if I ever spent this much time practicing since I debuted. If I tell you how many hours I practiced, I'm afraid you may think if that's all I can do, so I can't say exactly how many hours I spent."
The "You and I" star also recently opened up about people feeling uncomfortable with her sexier image. "It seemed like there were people who felt awkward after my teasers and pictures were revealed," she explained. "While it might be awkward to some, I want to be a performer whose transformations are eagerly anticipated when a new album is coming out."
