Internet trolls who spread false rumors that actress Song Hye Kyo was in a sponsored sexual relationship with a politician (who can't be named for legal reasons) have been charged by prosecutors.

The 31-year-old actress filed criminal complaints against 41 internet users in January for spreading rumors of prostitution across the net from September 2008 to December 2011.

On Thursday, July 4, 24 of the net users were charged and fined between $400 to $1,000 each at the Seoul Central District Court. It is believed that the majority of offenders are company workers aged between 20 and 30 years of age, including one doctor.

Upon the news breaking, the That Winter, the Wind Blows star's spokesman revealed the court's decision was news to them.

"We only learned that we had won this case after reading the news," the rep explained. "We now need to have discussions with our legal representatives. We are not even sure if Song Hye Kyo knows about this yet."

Meanwhile the actress herself commented on the case prior to the victory saying that she mostly felt guilty that her fame had caused detriment to someone else's professional career – someone that she'd never met.
