A female fan who blackmailed JYJ singer Park Yoochun over private photos has been jailed for 10 months.
Seoul Central District Court sentenced a Ms. Kim to 10 months in jail for blackmailing the 28-year-old boy band star and his agency for money. Judge Han Sung Soo declared at the June 9 sentencing: "Based on the damages suffered by the client and his agency, it is deemed as a heavy crime."
In February, Kim by chance picked up a lost cell phone that belonged to the JYJ singer's ex-girlfriend. She then proceeded to threaten the singer and his agency by suggesting that she would expose all the photos and text messages in the phone unless they paid her a ransom of $100,000 (USD).
The woman also threatened the star with lies that she was connected to authorities in media and politics.
Yoochun's management reluctantly agreed to the deal while also reporting the situation to the police and Kim -- whose full name has been withheld due to safety concerns -- was caught at the scene of the exchange by the cops.
