With just two episodes left of the current series, fans are preparing to bid farewell to The Producers. But it won't be a long goodbye because IdolWow! has exclusively learned that the the hugely successful series has been renewed for a second season.
A source close to the production team reveals, "Halfway through the series the network executives realized it can't let the show end after just one run. A second series was ordered before they had even finished shooting."
Scenes for the season finale wrapped late night on June 18 in Seoul and are currently in the production room ahead of airing this weekend.
The source says that series writer Park Ji Eun was immediately on board with the idea of continuing the story, which has received huge ratings in the 12 Asian countries that are airing the drama. (KBS refused to officially comment when approached by IdolWow!).
Kim Soo Hyun and Cha Tae Hyun are among the cast members who have already publicly expressed interest in continuing with the show and, says the source, "every other cast and crew member wants to remain a part of it."
The Producers has been one of the most successful Korean dramas in 2015. Yonhap News Agency recently reported that the series -- which tells the story of four young television producers who have to drama on and off the set -- has, so far, made $7.5 million in advertising revenue.
