Cult movie My Sassy Girl will return to the screen after thirteen years with an all-new sequel. Cha Tae Hyun — who starred in the original — will return as the lead character Gyeon Woo and will play opposite f(x) singer Victoria.
While promoting his upcoming comedy Slow Video, the 38-year-old actor has revealed new details and insights about My Sassy Girl 2, which will start shooting at the end of September.
Cha explains that he was initially reluctant to reappear in the role that turned him into a film star, despite it earning him the Best New Actor award in at the 2001 Blue Dragon Awards.
"Actually, My Sassy Girl 2 is a project that I really tried not to do, he tells Korea's Newsen outlet [LINK: http://]. "But I have a personal connection with the production company ShinCine and I really enjoyed watching Conduct Zero [2002 film], so I had my trust in director Jo Geun Shik. So I hope everything works out fine."
The original film featured My Love From Another Star's Jun Ji Hyun and is considered her breakout project. However, the megastar will not returning to the sequel, instead replaced by 27-year-old Chinese singer and actress, Victoria. (The new movie is a collaboration between Korean and Chinese studios).
The change is likely to cause cause controversy amongst the original movie’s huge fan base. Cha Tae Hyun adds, "I'm ready for the criticism about not having Jun Ji Hyun in the movie. I like the idea of doing more, but I wasn’t initially expecting My Sassy Girl to turn into a series."

However, the actor is at ease with the prospect of returning to a role he has already played in. The Hello Ghost star explains, "I feel comfortable as I'm already well familiar with the character Gyeon Woo." He further adds the fictional young man "is a character I can’t help but to rank first. Gyeon Woo is still tagged along my name even when I'm playing different characters."
