Perhaps leaving SM Entertainment wasn’t such a bad thing. Former EXO members Kris Wu and Luhan will be feeling good today after charting on the annual Forbes China Celebrity List.
The pair took spots on the prestigious top 100 list for their high earnings in 2014. Luhan — who left EXO in October 2014 — came in 37th place after raking in a cool $45.8 million USD (28.5 million yuan) thanks to cosmetics and technology deals and a lead role in movie Back to 20.
While 24-year-old Kris Wu — who quit the group in May 2014 — was just a few places away at 42 with earnings of $42.6 million USD (26.5 million yuan) thanks to his advertising endorsements and movie roles.
Luhan, 25, also gets the honor of taking the cover of the latest issue of Forbes China magazine, which celebrates his achievements as a solo singer and actor. After all, it’s believed that a large share of his earnings are due to his post-EXO activities in China.
Despite the good news, both stars are still locked into legal battles with SM Entertainment after leaving their contracts early. SM filed lawsuits against both in a Beijing court in May in an attempt to take cuts of their post-EXO earnings.
The 2015 Forbes China Celebrity List surveys the popularity and income of Greater China talent in film, sports, media and music. Earnings were based on the 2014 calendar year.
