2NE1 and Big Bang management YG Entertainment today announced plans to launch a new boy group through a new survival TV show.
YG CEO Yang Hyun Suk reveals that two groups will compete against each other in a new series called Win. The show will see the wannabes face a series of survival competitions – and through phone and internet votes, the public will get to decide who who will debut.
Little is known about the contenders. Team A, which has an average age of 20, consists of five YG trainees and includes Superstar K2 runner-up Kang Seung Yoon, 19, and K-Pop Star‘s Lee Seung Hoon. Team B includes rookie rapper and trainee B.I. (real name Kim Hanbin) and five other members with an average age of 17.
From mid-July the two teams will go head-to-head which once a week for 10 weeks. The winners will release their first single the day after the final episode in September.
Yang, 42, adds: “Realistically it would be near impossible for YG to debut two new boy groups at around the same time. We will debut one of the two teams this year, and we are allowing the public to wholly decide on which team will get to debut.”
