Going solo! 2NE1 leader CL will launch her solo career in the US next year, IdolWow! can confirm.
On Thursday, October 16, YG Entertainment confirmed the girl group’s fierce frontwoman is set to bring her distinctive talent and style to American audiences. The agency says, “It’s true that CL is releasing a new solo track in the States next spring.”
According to entertainment insiders, the 23-year-old starlet will enter the US market with the help of Scooter Braun who will manage her activities in America.
The highly successful talent manager has been at the helm of careers such as Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande while also teaming up with PSY for his international activities. In fact, the “Gangnam Style” rapper is actually responsible for introducing her to Scooter last spring, at which time he took special interest in her for being a female rapper and influential fashionista.
Thanks to attention from Western stars such as Black Eyed Peas’ Will.i.am, electro deejay Skrillex and producer Diplo — with whom she collaborated earlier this year on the track “Dirty Vibe” — CL has been a rising star on the global scene for some time.
The singer and rapper has also further built a strong Western fan base thanks to her ever-growing presence on the pages of international fashion magazines, sitting front row at major runway shows and mingling with high-profile designers such as good friend Jeremy Scott.
Fluent in English, CL is well-poised to take on the American market. The idol detailed her solo ambitions in an interview with Billboard magazine last year by revealing, “I want to have something personal for me… I have so many things I want to say. I have this other side of me that people didn’t meet in 2NE1.”

The singer further explained, “I want to represent Asian women. I want to break that typical Asian female stereotype. There’s this standard where they’re all calm. I want to break that. I want to tell the world that there are some badass Asian female girls.” We can get down with that!
